Why Choose the CM‑2018?

  1. LPF Low‑Pass Filter (Ideal for Variable‑Frequency Measurements) Ordinary multimeters produce unstable, jumping readings when measuring inverters. The built‑in LPF circuit suppresses high‑frequency noise, delivering stable voltage and frequency readings for inverters, servo motors and other non‑linear loads.

  2. LoZ Low‑Impedance Ghost‑Voltage Detection Distinguish real live voltage from induced ghost voltage. Under the 300 kΩ low‑impedance input mode, the meter quickly identifies spurious induced voltage and improves service‑site safety.

  3. REL Relative Measurement (DC Current Zero‑Reset) Eliminates zero‑point drift caused by geomagnetism or residual magnetism. Press REL to zero before DC‑current measurement for improved accuracy for low‑current readings.

Step‑by‑Step Operation Tutorial

For voltage, resistance, capacitance and diode measurements: insert red test lead into VΩ jack, black test lead into COM jack. For temperature measurement: connect red plug of TP01 thermocouple to VΩ, black plug to COM.

1. AC / DC Voltage Measurement

  1. Rotate function selector to voltage range.

  2. Press SELECT/LPF to toggle between DC and AC modes.

  3. Connect test leads in parallel across the points under test and record readings.

  4. Under AC‑voltage mode, press Hz/DUTY to toggle frequency / duty‑cycle display.

  • For variable‑frequency equipment: under AC‑voltage mode, long‑press SELECT/LPF to activate LPF low‑pass filter.

  • Ghost‑voltage detection: turn selector to LoZ range, toggle DC / AC mode to identify spurious induced voltage.

Note: Do not apply input voltage exceeding 600 V. Minor residual digits on low ranges at power‑on are normal.

2. AC / DC Current Measurement

Important prerequisites: Measure only one single conductor at a time; keep conductor centered inside clamp jaws; perform REL zero‑reset for DC‑current measurements.

  1. Rotate selector to current range; press SELECT/LPF to switch DC / AC current.

  2. Ambient magnetic fields may cause zero offset; press REL to zero before taking DC‑current readings.

  3. Squeeze trigger to open clamp jaws, enclose a single conductor and fully close jaws.

  4. Read measurement value on‑screen. Positive / negative DC readings indicate current flow direction.

High‑accuracy DC‑current workflow:

  1. Power‑off the target circuit; enclose the conductor and fully close clamp jaws.

  2. Wait for reading to stabilize and press REL for zero‑reset.

  3. Re‑energize the circuit and record the stabilized reading.

Warning: Maximum measuring current is 800 A. Short‑term overload protection is 1000 A for no more than 60 seconds.

3. Resistance, Diode & Continuity Test

  1. Rotate selector to corresponding range. Repeatedly press SELECT/LPF to cycle among Resistance Ω / Diode / Continuity modes.

  2. Resistance measurement: Connect test probes to components under test. For in‑circuit measurements, cut power and fully discharge capacitors. “OL” indicates over‑range. For resistance above 1 MΩ, allow several seconds for reading stabilization (normal behaviour).

  3. Diode test: Red lead to diode anode, black lead to cathode. Silicon PN‑junction normal forward drop: 500‑800 mV. Reverse measurement should display “OL”. Readings present in both forward and reverse directions indicate defective diode.

  4. Continuity test: Buzzer sounds continuously when resistance between two points is below 50 Ω.

⚠️ Never apply voltage input to this measurement range, or permanent meter damage may occur.

4. Capacitance Measurement

  1. Rotate selector to capacitance range; use SELECT/LPF to activate capacitance mode.

  2. Fully discharge the capacitor under test to avoid instrument damage.

  3. Connect test leads to capacitor terminals. If offset baseline reading appears, press REL to zero before reading capacitance value.

5. Temperature Measurement

  1. Rotate selector to ℃/℉ range and connect TP01 K‑type thermocouple probe.

  2. Press SELECT/LPF to switch between Celsius and Fahrenheit.

  3. Place thermocouple sensing tip against target object and read temperature value.

⚠️ Do not feed voltage signals into temperature input terminals. Use original K‑type TP01 probe to guarantee accuracy.

6. NCV Non‑Contact AC Voltage Detection

  1. Turn function selector to NCV position.

  2. Bring clamp‑jaw close to target wiring. The unit triggers audible‑visual alarm according to induced‑voltage level.

Notice: False triggering may occur due to insulation thickness and surrounding interference. Absence of NCV alarm does not guarantee de‑energized circuits. Always verify live status with voltage‑range test‑lead measurements.
